The Portland Timbers face a critical juncture following Kevin Kelsy's transfer to Rangers, leaving Felipe Mora isolated in attack. With a 9-6-14 record and 19th place standing, the team struggles with a 13-draw record and relies heavily on Cole Bassett's midfield dominance. In this mailbag, we analyze the tactical void, Bassett's workload, and the path to climbing the MLS standings.
Key players discussed include Felipe Mora, whose lack of support is evident in his isolation against Columbus Crew, and Cole Bassett, who recorded 68 accurate passes in the recent 3-2 victory. We also examine goalkeeper James Pantemis's performance and the defensive stability shown against Wessam Abou Ali and Rudy Camacho. Topics cover the impact of Kelsy's departure, the necessity of youth integration, and strategies to break the draw streak.
This episode explores the current roster picture, including the absence of a primary target man and the reliance on Bassett for build-up play. We discuss the challenges of maintaining momentum without Kelsy, the psychological barrier of drawing thirteen games, and the potential for young wingers to step up. The conversation also touches on the team's position relative to rivals like Chicago and Miami, offering a realistic outlook on playoff hopes.
In this episode: Kelsy's Impact & Mora's Isolation · Roster Battles & Standings · Hypotheticals & Lightning Round.
