Comedians with Pastors Talking Bible pairs Pittsburgh standup comedians with two ELCA pastors to talk about the week's gospel text — badly, then well.
It's Reformation Sunday, and Bob and Eric are joined by resident comic theologians Abby Evans and Erick Williams for John 8, where Jesus promises the truth will set people free and the crowd responds that they've never been slaves to anyone. Which is a bold thing to say about the Exodus. Along the way, Luther gets his history lesson, Jesus gets compared to a Pittsburgh billboard lawyer, and nobody is allowed to define Reformation Sunday without a hearing.
Expect:
- A very Pittsburgh reading of "the truth will make you free"
- Why "we've never been slaves to anyone" is the Spider-Man-never-got-bitten moment of the Bible
- The theory that the whole exchange is sarcasm, and what it does to Jesus' reply
- Paul preaching so long a kid falls out a window, then resuscitating him so he can keep going
- A Veggie Tales detour, and the case for Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber
- Upcoming shows: Abby's Stephen King roast at Mr. Smalls Funhouse (Fri., Oct. 23) and Erick at Balanced Brewing (Sat., Oct. 24)
Hosted by Pastor Eric Damon and Pastor Bob Schaefer.
