This is a magical, mysterious bedtime story about a boy who follows a rumbling sound beneath his garden at night and finds a little dragon whose fire has gone out, deep inside the mountain.

Rowan loves his family's garden most after dark. One night the ground starts to grumble under his feet, and he follows it through a hidden crack in a mossy boulder, down a stairway of glowworms, to a small grey dragon named Pebble. Together they drift down an underground river of green stars, through a cave of ringing crystals and a hall of ancient sleeping dragons, to the fire at the mountain's heart, where Rowan helps Pebble light his fire again. Then the two of them curl up in the warm moss and fall asleep.
