*Why We Struggle* explores developmental and relational trauma, attachment, anxiety, perfectionism, self-worth and the relationship patterns we can understand intellectually but still struggle to change. Hosted by trauma therapist Valentina Levant, the podcast looks beyond symptoms to the nervous system, early relationships and the adaptations we developed when important emotional needs could not be met. Why do we keep reacting in ways that no longer serve us? Why can insight and even years of therapy sometimes leave certain patterns untouched? And what actually makes deeper change possible?Valentina Levant
  • What Therapy Often Misses About Trauma
    Oct 29 2026

What if understanding yourself isn’t the same as becoming free?

In this episode, I explore what therapy can sometimes miss about developmental and relationship trauma: the protective and survival strategies that can remain in place even when we understand our patterns, manage our anxiety and become better at regulating our emotions.

We look at attachment, childhood trauma, people-pleasing, perfectionism, emotional distance and the nervous system — and at an important question: Is therapy only helping us feel better, or is it giving us more freedom and choice in how we relate to ourselves and others?
