The witness heard the sounds for weeks while the man's face turned blue and his urine filled with blood-yet the Gestapo never learned his true identity. A prisoner named Luka Samardžić was a lie that hid decades of secret operations across three continents and a career inside the Soviet Union's deadliest intelligence service; how did one man keep every secret even as he was being broken?
In this episode, we follow the life that produced that silence: from Stolac and Sarajevo to Belgrade, the Balkan wars, a failed assassination plot in France, and finally Moscow and capture-examining how those experiences built the capacity to withstand torture and protect an entire network. What made Mustafa Golubić choose lies and compartmentalization over revealing the names that could have destroyed so many?
