  • Understanding Changes Everything | Doug Shock on Healing and Letting Go
    Oct 16 2026

What changes when a man stops asking only what happened to him and starts asking what he still needs to understand?

Brad Maynard and Jody Griffin sit down with longtime friend and current Fight participant Doug Shock for Session 5: Healing and Understanding. Doug shares how hearing Brad and Jody on the Hallerin Hill radio show led him to join the Fight, why he calls it an answer to prayer, and what is beginning to change in his life.

The conversation moves through the absence of a father, the letter Doug wrote, forgiveness, sobriety, and taking responsibility for healing in other relationships. Jody also shares why this is his favorite session to teach and how understanding changed the way he saw his own story.

Doug is still going through the Fight. This is an honest conversation about doing the work while the story is still unfolding.

We close with our recurring question: If you had five minutes with your 18-year-old self, what would you tell him about becoming a man?

  • Protected but Not Prepared | Greg Horton on Marriage and Fatherhood
    Oct 9 2026

Growing older brings responsibilities. It does not automatically prepare us to carry them.

Greg Horton joins Brad Maynard for an honest conversation about the outcomes of Session 4: becoming better prepared for marriage, fatherhood, and the everyday work of being a man. They talk about unmet expectations, learning from older men, managing reactions, listening, and giving our children the affection and affirmation they need.

Through personal stories and practical lessons, Brad and Greg explore how men can recognize someone who is struggling, ask for help, and take responsibility for what happens next. The challenge this week: name one responsibility you want to carry better, have an honest conversation with a trusted, mature man, and take one concrete step.
