Passed in March 2026 and brought into force in May, the Transgender Persons (Amendment) Act is currently under challenge at the Supreme Court. Petitioners contend that the amendment is contrary to the landmark judgement in NALSA v Union of India, 2014 which upheld the right to self-perception of gender identity.
Things are moving fast with two hearings, a transfer petition and denial of interim relief. The Court is set to hear the matter today. Stay tuned for today's hearing report!
