- The victim's phone showed an active outgoing call to the contact labeled "Mom" that displayed 6:47 AM, though the medical examiner set time of death near 4:30 AM.
- Norma Reyes, the victim's mother, answered that 6:47 AM call and heard silence on the line, then assumed it was a pocket dial.
- Investigators found a prepaid burner phone in a storm drain 40 feet north of the car; it had been bought on Dec 9 at the local Pilot Travel Center and activated once.
- The burner received a single incoming call at 6:49 AM from a number registered to Jason Morgan, a fuel-contract driver who regularly delivered to Harlo Freight and drove US-93 in pre-dawn hours.
