The US and Iran began talks on a permanent peace deal that seek to settle the issue of the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program and permanently reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
The first high-level meetings of US, Iranian, Qatari and Pakistani representatives commenced Sunday in the Swiss resort of Bürgenstock, with US Vice President JD Vance and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi among attendees.
But even as the meetings got underway, President Donald Trump threatened in a social media post Sunday to strike Iran again if it doesn’t “immediately stop their highly paid PROXIES in Lebanon from causing trouble.”
On today’s show, Bloomberg This Weekend hosts David Gura, Christina Ruffini, and Lisa Mateo speak with:
- Bloomberg News Economy & Government Reporter Bastian Benrath-Wright, reporting from the summit where Vice President JD Vance is meeting with delegates from Iran, Pakistan, and Qatar.
- Bloomberg Daybreak Europe Anchor Lizzy Burden on the pressure around Keir Starmer to step down as UK Prime Minister.
- Politico New York State Politics Reporter Jason Beeferman on the seats up for grabs in the New York primary elections.
- Bloomberg Businessweek Senior Writer Amanda Mull on the gold rush in peptides, as the FDA considers easing restrictions on the drug.
- Kevin Maguire, author of "The New Fatherhood," on how fatherhood books are failing modern dads.
