Good morning! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Iowa Weather Podcast — it's Wednesday, February 25th. That crisp blue sky you're seeing right now? Don't get too attached. Snow's coming. And it's going to mess with your evening plans. Out west, you're up first. Snow starts rolling in around noon and peaks at 3 P.M. Des Moines hits 37 degrees by 2 P.M. before things get messy. The good news? Barely any accumulation. Think dusting, not disaster. Central Iowa, you're in the thick of it. Snow develops by 4 P.M. and peaks around 6 P.M. — right when you're trying to get home. Expect 1 to 2 inches by morning. Highs reach 33 degrees around 2 P.M. Not terrible, but those roads are going to be slick. Eastern Iowa gets a later start. Snow holds off until 8 P.M., peaking around 9 P.M. Highs hit 32 degrees by 4 P.M. But here's the kicker.. It'll feel like 10 degrees at 8 A.M. That's the kind of cold that makes your coffee freeze on the walk to the car. Quad Cities, you're last in line. Snow runs from 9 P.M. to midnight, peaking around 10 P.M. Highs climb to 38 degrees by 4 P.M. Now here's where it gets interesting. Thursday and Friday bring a serious warm-up. Western Iowa could hit 58 degrees Thursday. Friday sees highs in the upper 50s to low 60s statewide. That's 15 degrees above normal for late February. Winter's identity crisis continues. But don't pack away the parka yet. Another system arrives Sunday with snow and highs back in the upper 20s to low 30s. Today's sunrise is at 6:57 A.M. Sunset at 6:01 P.M. We're gaining nearly three minutes of daylight each day now. Drive carefully tonight. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
