Recognising the pattern is one thing but finding the confidence to do something about it? Well, that’s a whole different story.
I once kept an actual journal documenting the arguments between my ex and I. I could see what was happening, yet it took another four years before I finally left.
So why do we sometimes recognise the red flags and convince ourselves they’re just a lighter shade of pink?!
In this episode, we’re talking about pattern recognition, emotional intelligence and the uncomfortable gap between knowing something isn’t serving you and feeling ready to change it.
I also reflect on being five years single, how my relationship with myself has changed and how I’m learning to recognise inconsistent behaviour in dating without overanalysing someone’s intentions or falling in love with their potential.
Because understanding someone else’s behaviour doesn’t mean you have to keep accepting it. And being emotionally intelligent doesn’t mean becoming so understanding of everyone else that you abandon yourself.
We’re not aiming to become cynical, suspicious or perfect at spotting red flags. We’re learning to trust our own observations, recognise what no longer serves us and have the confidence to respond differently.
Because awareness is the beginning. What you do with it is where things really start to change….
