In 1860, Elizabeth Packard was committed to Jacksonville Insane Asylum for “extensive application of body and mind,” or as she put it, “placed there by her husband for thinking.” She spent three years there, enduring horrific abuses alongside countless other women whose husbands and families had abandoned them. When she finally got out, she went after the men, laws, and systems that put her there - and she won.

“The time for downtrodden and oppressed women to have their rights has come. Her voice and her pen are going to move the world.” - Elizabeth Packard

Hidden in the Venetian Lagoon, just a short distance from the glittering streets of Venice, Poveglia has earned a reputation as one of the most haunted islands in the world—a place so steeped in death and tragedy that even today, few people are willing to set foot there.

For centuries, the island was used to quarantine victims of disease. The sick were brought there. The dying were abandoned there. And the dead were buried there. But you might be surprised by where the hauntings actually come from (we definitely were).
