  • Being Both on the Battlefield: She’s a Loving, Submissive Wife AND One Who Will Not Cover Sin
    Sep 16 2026

Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note.

In this episode, we continue the conversation about spiritual warfare in marriage and what it means to respond when conflict, fear, anger, pride, or harmful behaviour enters the home.

There can be a temptation to respond in one of two unhelpful ways: becoming an enabler by staying silent out of fear, or reacting in anger and bitterness with the same harmful spirit that has come into the situation. Neither response brings healing, truth, or peace to a marriage.

Instead, this episode explores a third way: being both a respectful, loving, submissive wife before the Lord and a woman who will not cover sin, tell lies, or call evil good. This is not about trying to control or “fix” a husband. It is about putting God first, praying for His will, listening for the Holy Spirit’s guidance, speaking truth with kindness, and knowing when to wait rather than engage in the middle of wrath.

We discuss a practical example of a husband coming home burdened by stress, fear, resentment, and negative thoughts—and how a wife might respond without shrinking in fear or escalating the conflict. You’ll also hear encouragement for how to support children after a tense moment, how to seek understanding rather than simply accuse, and why patience and humility are necessary when God is working in someone’s heart.

This episode also includes an important caution: do not become hyper-focused on every annoyance or lose sight of your own heart and personal responsibility. At the same time, abuse, neglect, physical harm, sexual abuse, and exposure to domestic violence are serious concerns that require protection and reporting to the appropriate authorities.

Ultimately, this is a call to stand for truth, love, and kindness in the everyday moments of marriage—not just in dramatic circumstances. Through the Holy Spirit, we can choose a different response: one rooted in faith rather than fear, truth rather than denial, and God’s will rather than our own.

    Scripture Mentioned

    • 2 Timothy 1:7 — God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.
    • Ephesians 4:25 — Put away lying and speak truth with one another.
    • Ephesians 4:30–32 — Do not grieve the Holy Spirit; put away bitterness, wrath, anger, clamour, and evil speaking, and be kind and tenderhearted.
    • Isaiah 5:20 — A warning against calling evil good and good evil.
    • 1 Corinthians 4:12 — “Being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we endure.”
    • John 10:28–29 — No one can snatch God’s people from His hand.
    • Luke 6:41 — Examine the plank in your own eye before focusing on the speck in another’s eye.

    Key Takeaways

    • Fear can lead us to enable unhealthy behaviour, while bitterness can lead us to react in ways that perpetuate the same harm.
    • We can be respectful and loving without pretending wrongdoing did not happen.
    • Prayer, patience, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit can help us discern whether to speak now or wait until there is a better opportunity for a productive conversation.
    • We are not responsible for fixing our spouse; God is the one who changes hearts.
    • Children should not be taught to hide or deny harmful behaviour, but they also should not be pulled further into adult conflict.
    • It is important to seek trusted professional support when anxiety, fear, resentment, or past experiences are making healthy communication difficult.
    • If a child is experiencing abuse, neglect, physical harm, sexual abuse, or exposure to domestic violence, their safety must come first and the situation must be reported to the appropriate authorities.
    • Standing for Christ often happens in the small, daily choices to tell the truth, reject bitterness, show kindness, and choose God’s will over our own.

  • Pulled Back, But Not Pushed Out: Surviving the Marriage Backswing
    Sep 10 2026

Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note.

Does it ever feel like your marriage is moving forward—until one stressful day, hurtful comment, sleepless night, or misunderstanding pulls you right back into old patterns?

In this episode, we explore the “backswing effect”: those discouraging moments when progress in your marriage seems to disappear and conflict leaves you wondering, “Are we back at square one?” The good news is that a setback does not mean your growth is gone, your marriage is failing, or God has stopped working.

We talk about why marriage downturns happen, including learned conflict patterns, fight-flight-freeze responses, and the importance of remembering that your spouse is not the enemy. You will also learn practical, faith-centred tools to help you respond with greater calm, kindness, truth, and hope when conflict arises.

    In This Episode

    • What the “backswing effect” is and why it can feel so discouraging
    • Why progress in marriage is rarely a straight line
    • How childhood experiences and learned conflict patterns can affect arguments today
    • The four destructive conflict patterns: criticism, contempt, defensiveness, and stonewalling
    • Healthier ways to begin difficult conversations and repair after conflict
    • How your nervous system can move into fight, flight, or freeze during an argument
    • Why taking a break to calm down can be wise rather than avoidant
    • How prayer, Scripture, and the armour of God can help you stay grounded in hard moments
    • Why your husband is not the enemy—and how to refocus on fighting for your marriage, not against each other
    • Six reminders for staying steady when marriage takes a backswing

A hard conversation, a stressful week, or a familiar argument does not have to become a breakdown. With God’s help, every difficult moment can become an opportunity to pause, grow, repair, and move forward together.

    Scriptures Mentioned

    • Ephesians 6:10–18 — The armour of God
    • Ephesians 6:12 — Our struggle is not against flesh and blood
    • 1 Corinthians 10:13 — God provides a way to endure temptation
    • Galatians 5:22–23 — The fruit of the Spirit

  • A Wife’s Secret Strength: Three Feminine Attributes to Fulfill Your Role as a Wife
    Sep 4 2026

Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note.

What does it look like to embrace God’s design for women within marriage?

In this episode, I talk about three feminine attributes that can help us grow into our role as wives: nurturing, being receptive and attractive to our husbands, and offering encouragement rather than criticism or control.

God created men and women differently, with strengths that can complement one another in marriage. As wives, we do not have to compete with our husbands, carry every burden ourselves, or operate from fear. We can choose faith in God’s design and trust Him to work in both us and our husbands.

    We will talk about:

    • Why men and women have different God-given strengths and roles
    • What it means to be a help meet in marriage
    • The importance of nurturing your husband without controlling or smothering him
    • How negative thoughts, resentment, and unforgiveness can affect closeness in marriage
    • Why emotional, physical, and mental receptivity matters
    • A simple exercise to shift your focus from your husband’s faults to the things you appreciate about him
    • Why encouragement is powerful and criticism can create long-term damage
    • Moving from fear, control, and competition toward faith, support, and partnership
    • Trusting God to shape your marriage through the work of the Holy Spirit

Marriage is not meant to be a competition. It is meant to be a union: two different people, with different gifts and responsibilities, working together as one under God.

If you have found yourself feeling fearful, critical, disconnected, controlling, or burnt out in your marriage, this episode is an invitation to bring those things to Jesus. God can change our hearts, renew our minds, and help us become wives who nurture, encourage, and strengthen our marriages.

    Scriptures Mentioned

    • Genesis 1:28
    • Genesis 2:15
    • Genesis 2:18
    • Genesis 2:19
    • Genesis 2:21–24
    • Matthew 5:44

    Reflection Question

What is one area where fear may be leading you to criticize, control, or pull away from your husband—and what would it look like to bring that fear to God instead?

  • What type of man are you married to? Is he Mr. Command, Mr. Visionary, or Mr. Steady?
    Aug 26 2026

Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note.

In this episode, we explore Debbie Pearl’s three types of men from Created to Be His Help Meet: Mr. Command Man, Mr. Visionary, and Mr. Steady. While every man may have qualities from each type, most tend to be strongest in one area.

We will look at the strengths, challenges, and needs of each type of man, as well as how wives can better understand, appreciate, and support the husband God has given them. This episode is an encouragement to stop comparing your husband to other men or trying to make him into someone he is not. Instead, learn to pray, watch, listen, and grow in wisdom as you honour God in your role as a wife and helpmeet.

  • Who Wants to Be a Wise Wife? Wisdom, Understanding, and God’s Design for Marriage
    Aug 20 2026

Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note.

In this episode of Who Wants to Be a Wise Wife?, we explore what the Bible means when it says that “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” What does it mean to fear God in a healthy, faith-filled way—and how does that wisdom shape the way we live, think, and respond in marriage?

We will look at the connection between wisdom and understanding, why God calls us to apply His truth rather than simply read it, and what it means to honour Him in our role as wives. This conversation is not about perfection, losing your voice, or accepting harmful treatment. It is about seeking God’s design, growing in obedience, and trusting Him to transform us through His grace.

Marriage can be hard, especially when our spouse is difficult, distant, grumpy, or short with us. Yet God sees every faithful choice. Join me as we talk about pursuing wisdom, choosing kindness, and finding strength, peace, and joy as we honour the Lord in everyday married life.

  • The Source of Lasting Joy
    Aug 12 2026

Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note.

    ## Episode Notes

Are you tired of chasing happiness, only to find that joy still feels just out of reach?

In this episode, I share my own search for peace and joy through self-help, personal growth, and New Age spirituality—and why none of it gave me the lasting fullness I was looking for. I explore the difference between happiness, which can change with our circumstances, and true joy, which grows when we remain connected to Jesus.

We will look at what Scripture says about joy as a fruit of the Holy Spirit, why abiding in Christ matters, and how belief, repentance, and obedience can transform not only our hearts but also our marriages.

I also share a personal conviction I experienced after reading Ephesians 5:33 and realizing that my disapproving, critical thoughts toward my husband were keeping me stuck in an ungrateful and joyless mindset. Through prayer, taking thoughts captive, and asking God to help me honour my husband, I began to experience a renewed sense of peace, gentleness, and joy.

This episode is for the woman who feels restless, emotionally drained, or like she has been searching everywhere for something only God can provide.

    In this episode, we discuss:

    - The difference between temporary happiness and lasting joy

    - Why self-focused searching can leave us spiritually empty

    - Joy as a fruit of the Holy Spirit

    - Taking critical thoughts captive in marriage

    - Serving your husband from love rather than fear

    - Finding peace and joy through repentance, humility, and trust in God

    Scriptures referenced:

    Galatians 5:22–23, John 15:4–5, John 15:10, John 14:15, Romans 15:13, and Ephesians 5:33.

  • Where's Your Beautiful Smile? Choosing Joy and Humility to Restore Your Marriage
    Aug 5 2026

Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note.

Where's Your Beautiful Smile? Choosing Joy and Humility to Restore Your Marriage

I lost my genuine smile somewhere between wedding vows and here today, trading playful joy for a critical, anxious spirit that quietly pushed my husband away. In this episode, I get real about how pride and control drained the life out of my marriage, and how choosing humility and a merry heart with God brought that smile.

I share how I slowly shifted from being my husband's fun-loving buddy to an anxious, critical wife, and how that shift, didn't make him better or make me happier. It just fed a cycle of anger, bitterness, sadness, and fear. I talk honestly about what changed when I stopped focusing on his flaws and started choosing love, humility, and obedience to God, regardless of how my husband was behaving.

You'll also hear the research behind why this matters for your health and his: studies on smiling, stress recovery, and cortisol levels that show how a merry heart really can "do good like a medicine" (Proverbs 17:22). I walk through key scripture on humility, pride, and trusting God rather than our own hearts, including 1 Peter 5:5, Isaiah 57:15, Proverbs 28:26, and Matthew 10:29–31.

This episode is for any wife who has felt herself become more critical, anxious, or distant in her marriage and wants to understand what's really underneath it, and how surrendering pride can restore joy, connection, and that beautiful smile.

Topics covered: marriage, humility, pride, self-control, anxiety, critical spirit, biblical womanhood, Christian marriage, fruit of the Spirit, emotional health.

  • The Slippery Slope: From Drifting to God’s Design for Wives
    Jul 30 2026

Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note.

What does God expect from us as wives and what happens when we slowly drift away from Him?

In this personal episode of Humble Wife, I share part of my story: growing up in rural Saskatchewan, having faith around me but not fully understanding what it meant to know and follow Jesus personally, and how I gradually moved toward a more self-focused life.

I also share how Ted and I met, the early years of our relationship, and the ways we both wrestled with faith, worldly influences, and God’s calling for our marriage. Through prayer, repentance, grace, and the patient work of the Holy Spirit, God began to show me my deep need for Jesus and the freedom found in surrendering my life to Him.

We then talk about God’s purpose for wives. This is not about having a perfect husband or pretending marriage is easy. It is about learning to trust God in an imperfect marriage, laying down fear and frustration, praying for our husbands, and finding joy and purpose as we faithfully follow Christ.

If you have ever wondered about your role as a wife, felt discouraged in your marriage, or needed the reminder that God’s grace is still available after a season of drifting, I hope this episode encourages you.

    Scripture mentioned: Ephesians 4:17–19; 1 Peter 5:8; Proverbs 18:22.
