How does the gift of opportunity make a difference in the world?

In this episode of Humankindness at Work, you'll meet Bulleh “Boo” Bablitch-Norkeh, founder of Girl Power Africa, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering women and children in Liberia, West Africa through education and entrepreneurship.

Bulleh was born in Liberia to a Liberian mother and an American Peace Corps father, who brought her to the United States as a child — giving her, in her words, "the opportunity of a lifetime." She grew up, went to school, married, and built a comfortable life in Wisconsin. But when Liberia's newly elected first female president invited her husband to help rebuild the country after a 14-year civil war, Bulleh found herself making the opposite journey: uprooting her own family and moving back to the country of her birth.

What she found there — women walking miles each day to sell goods worth less than a dollar, children unable to attend school because their families couldn't afford a single cup of rice — changed the course of her life. She began helping women one at a time, giving them bags of charcoal to sell, then covering school fees for their children. That quiet, personal generosity has since grown into Girl Power Africa, which today supports more than 585 children's education and dozens of women-led small businesses across Liberia.
