  • I Joined for the Sisterhood, Not a Second Shift
    Oct 16 2026

You joined for the sisterhood, the rides, and the friendships—not to become the unpaid event planner, group-chat manager, and emotional support department. In this episode of Hot Flashes & Horsepower, we talk about invisible labor, loyalty, boundaries, social pressure, volunteer burnout, and what happens when a community starts feeling more like a second job than a source of joy. Because friendship should add to your life, not consume it. You can be a great friend, a committed club member, and a supportive woman without being responsible for everything. It's time to make room for connection, laughter, and a little more freedom.

    RESEARCH NOTES

There is no reliable national statistic that directly measures how often friendships, motorcycle clubs, or social organizations feel like a second job. The research discussed in this episode addresses related topics, including the importance of friendship, communication patterns, emotional labor, volunteer experiences, and mental health support. These findings provide context for the experiences described, but they should not be interpreted as directly measuring burnout or overcommitment in motorcycle clubs.

  • Mom’s Got a Motorcycle: Riding Free Without Leaving Your Family Unprepared
    Oct 15 2026

Being a mom who rides means balancing the freedom of the open road with the people and responsibilities we carry in our hearts. In this episode of Hot Flashes & Horsepower, we're talking about the emotional side of motherhood on two wheels—from mom guilt and family worries to embracing our independence and making room for adventure in midlife. We're also getting practical about the important stuff we don't always want to think about: emergency contacts, estate planning, wills, powers of attorney, advance directives, and childcare or guardianship arrangements. Because being prepared isn't about living in fear—it's about protecting the people we love while continuing to live the life we want. Make the plan, check your gear, and take the ride. You can be a responsible mom and a woman who still craves a little throttle therapy!
