Her specific field of study is Medieval English Literature with a specific focus on the legend of King Arthur. Dr. Armstrong is also chief editor of Arthuriana which is the North American branch of the International Arthurian Society. Outside of this she has featured in the Great Courses series as well as the YouTube channel Wired's tech support series where she answered questions related to the Middle Ages.
