From the outside, TOMS founder Blake Mycoskie is the ideal of entrepreneurial success. He founded TOMS shoes in 2006, pioneering the “buy one, give one” business model: For every pair of shoes a customer bought, the company donated a pair to a child in need. TOMS inspired a slew of socially responsible companies, but Mycoskie says after he sold the company in 2019, he fell into a deep depression. Now, he’s back with a new venture aimed at promoting mental health awareness.
