In the Yuddha Kanda, Hanuman brings the Sanjeevani-bearing mountain from the Himalayas and revives Rama, Lakshmana, and the fallen Vanaras. Enraged by the destruction in Lanka and the death of his warriors, Ravana sends mighty commanders, but they are slain by the Vanara heroes. Finally, he commands Indrajit to enter the battlefield.

Before fighting, Indrajit performs a powerful and terrifying Nikumbhila Homa, using weapons in place of sacred tools. After completing part of the ritual, he appears invisibly in battle and unleashes a storm of arrows. To weaken Rama emotionally, he creates a Maya Sita and appears to kill her before the Vanaras. Shocked and heartbroken, Hanuman informs Rama, who collapses in grief.

However, Vibhishana reveals the truth—it was an illusion to protect Indrajit’s ritual. If the Homa is completed, Indrajit becomes invincible. Determined to stop him, Rama sends Lakshmana, Hanuman, and the army to disrupt the sacrifice.

Kumbhakarna marched into battle like a living mountain, scattering the vanara सेना in terror. Despite Angada and Hanuman rallying the troops, the mighty giant crushed warriors, hurled mountains aside, and even carried Sugriva toward Lanka before being wounded and forced back. Then Indrajit performed a powerful ritual, became invisible, and unleashed the Brahmastra, striking down Rama, Lakshmana, and countless vanaras. As despair spread, Jambavan urged Hanuman to fly to the Himalayas and bring the life-saving herbs, placing the fate of the army upon him.

Determined and fearless, Kumbhakarna prepares for battle, ready to face Rama and Lakshmana.
