  • People Like Us (1990)
    Oct 10 2026
People Like Us was a two-part NBC miniseries that aired May 13–14, 1990, based on the bestselling novel by Dominick Dunne. It was a glossy, sometimes vicious drama about the secrets, scandals, marriages and social maneuvering of wealthy New York society.Eva Marie Saint played Lil Van Degan Altemus, an extremely wealthy, socially prominent and emotionally cold matriarch. It was quite different from the warm or elegant characters audiences often associated with her.One of Lil's most dramatic storylines concerns her son Hubie (Gary Frank), who is gay and dying of AIDS. The story examines Lil's inability to accept both her son's sexuality and his illness. Contemporary reviews singled out Saint's performance, particularly the painful scenes between Lil and Hubie. The Washington PostAnd this is the important part in terms of Eva Marie Saint's career: the performance won her the 1990 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Special. TV GuideSo Saint accomplished something fairly remarkable: 36 years after winning an Oscar for On the Waterfront, she won a major Emmy for People Like Us.It is also a fascinating role to revisit today because Lil is not particularly likable. Saint was playing against her established screen persona and portraying a woman whose wealth, social standing and concern with appearances have left her frighteningly ill-equipped to deal compassionately with her own son's crisis. That gives her some of the miniseries' most uncomfortable material. RIP Eva Marie Saint who passed away this week at 102!

  • Alabama & NSYNC- (God Must Have Spent) A Little Time on You (1999)
    Sep 29 2026
In 1999, country music band Alabama recorded the song with a backing vocal from NSYNC, and released it as a single from their eighteenth studio album, Twentieth Century. This version peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart and at number 29 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song is the only country chart entry for NSYNC. This was also Alabama's final top-10 hit on the Billboard country chart until 2011, when they topped the chart as featured on Brad Paisley's "Old Alabama". The song was later included as the B-side to Alabama's next single, "Small Stuff".

  • Highway to Heaven (1984-1989)
    Sep 16 2026
I saw an epsiode from 1986 on Cozi TV and did not know how funny and progressive the show was.
Highway to Heaven is an American family drama television series created by and starring Michael Landon. It originally aired on NBC from 1984 to 1989 for five seasons. Landon played Jonathan Smith, an angel sent back to Earth on assignments from “The Boss” to help people facing difficult moments in their lives. He is joined by his human friend and traveling companion Mark Gordon, played by Victor French. Unlike many fantasy series, Highway to Heaven focused heavily on real-life issues such as grief, illness, prejudice, poverty, disability, aging, family conflict, and forgiveness. Its combination of faith, humor, and emotional storytelling made it one of the memorable inspirational television dramas of the 1980s.
