This week on Have Coffee Will Travel, Shawn is back from a weekend filled with horror, celebrities, road trips, and plenty of strange encounters!

Shawn heads out on a road trip to Creature Kon, where he meets some of the horror movie stars he grew up watching. One of the biggest highlights is meeting scream queen Linnea Quigley, who even records a special pop-culture quote with him.

Want to see the adventure for yourself? Shawn documented the entire road trip, from the drive to Creature Kon to the convention itself and everything that happened along the way.

While Shawn was away, Leah's bees were still keeping her busy. The two also catch up on what's been happening with the hive and the latest adventures in beekeeping.

Then, with spooky season underway, Shawn and Leah decide to watch a movie neither of them had ever seen before: Silent Night, Deadly Night.

And there's a pretty obvious connection.

After meeting Linnea Quigley at the convention, Shawn finally has the perfect excuse to introduce Leah to this controversial 1984 Christmas horror classic.

Did Leah enjoy it? What did Shawn think after meeting one of its stars? And does meeting someone from a movie make watching that movie afterward a little more interesting?

Grab your coffee and join us for another trip around the long way!

Spooky season has officially arrived, and we're kicking it off with a classic.

Shawn introduces Leah to They Live, the 1988 sci-fi cult classic starring Roddy Piper. Shawn recently picked up two NECA alien action figures from the movie, so naturally, that meant Leah had to watch it. Did she love it? Let's just say her review wasn't exactly glowing.

We also headed out to a local chili cook-off supporting the local soup kitchen. We sampled five different chilis and got to vote for our favourites. Leah even filmed the event for her new YouTube channel, My Northern Life With Leah.

Speaking of YouTube, Shawn talks about the surprising growth of The Long Way Around. What started as a small side project has been growing much faster than expected, and we're still trying to figure out where all of this might lead.

Then there's the Robin saga: In our last episode, we talked about Shawn's brother Robin accusing us of stealing his stuffed Robin's Donuts robin plush. The story got shared all over Facebook. Well, there's an update. About a week later, Robin found the original bird. Mystery solved!

Shawn is also getting ready for another road trip. He's heading to Sudbury for Creature Con, then continuing north to Timmins to visit his son. It's been three years since he's been back that way, so there's plenty to look forward to.

And because this is Shawn, there's also a story about smashing his face into lumber sticking out the back of a truck while working his mail route.

Plus, there's plenty of our usual coffee-fueled conversation, random tangents, and whatever else comes up when Shawn and Leah sit down to talk.

It's birthday week around here!

Leah celebrated her 47th birthday on August 29. Shawn is getting ready to hit the big 5-0 on September 3. We're celebrating both birthdays with a big BBQ potluck at Shawn's dad's place on September 5.

Before the party, we've been busy getting things ready. We tackled some yard work, picked up supplies, and started preparing for a pretty big family gathering.

We also talk about the many celebrity deaths we've seen this August. It's been a particularly rough month for losing familiar faces. We discuss some of the biggest names we've lost, including Dolly Parton, Peter Cullen, Tim Curry, Ben Jones, Hayden Panettiere, and others.

Meanwhile, Leah has another update from the bee yard. Her colony continues to keep her busy, and we talk about how the bees are doing.

We also check in on our Etsy shops and share some recent sales and customer feedback. You can find both shops below.

Then comes the really big news.

Shawn's YouTube channel has exploded!

Most of his videos typically get somewhere between 50 and 300 views. Then, two weeks ago, he posted a video about finding his family at a yard sale.

That video has now passed 150,000 views.

Even crazier, it brought in more than 800 new subscribers and helped Shawn get accepted into the YouTube Partner Program.

It's been an absolutely wild couple of weeks, and we talk about what it feels like watching a small channel suddenly take off.

And there's even more YouTube news.

Leah launched her own channel this week!

My Northern Life With Leah is officially underway, so we talk about her new channel and what she's planning to do with it.

Finally, we end the episode with one of the strangest dilemmas we've ever discussed on the podcast.

Shawn's brother Robin grew up with a plush Robin's Donuts bird. He last remembers having it in 2019, when he left Sault Ste. Marie to move to Timmins with Shawn.

Now he's been looking for that bird.

The problem?

There is a Robin's Donuts plush bird currently listed in Leah's Etsy shop.

Leah bought it in Orillia while travelling south to pick up her bee colony. That's roughly seven hours from home.

Robin thinks the bird might actually be his. There's a stain on the bird's hat that he recognizes.

He wants Leah to give it back.

Leah isn't convinced.

After all, she bought the bird legitimately and has no way of knowing whether it really belonged to Robin seven years ago.

So who's right?

Should Leah give Robin the bird, or is this simply a very strange coincidence?

You'll have to listen and decide for yourself!

As always, grab a coffee and come travel with us.
