With no lack of earth-shattering news this week, it's pretty shocking that something could grab a hold of my attention and take primary focus the way that these Peruvian mummies in Mexico have once again done. And yet here we are. Also, I know I'm late on getting this episode out, which I do want to acknowledge, but I have some cool career stuff that I'm working on that will hopefully sooner-rather-than-later help alleviate my financial situation, so that's how I fell behind a bit. But also, to be fair, this is all some pretty out-there news, so I was understandably processing. 

Last week, I talked about the concept of ontological shock and critical thinking skills, and I want to continue using that lens to discuss the three-and-a-half-hour-long hearing that took place earlier this week before Mexican Congress regarding a series of mysterious Peruvian mummies. My motivation for this is, much like the situation in Palestine, I've been struggling to find neutral, comprehensive mainstream media coverage of this event. 

Therefore, sifting through what articles I could find, I challenged myself to: 

1) watch the hearing myself to get a firsthand impression of the information being delivered and the perceived veracity of the speakers, 

2) read through all articles that I could find specifically about this second hearing to see what details were actually covered in these news outlets, and which ones were left out of the discussion completely, and finally, 

3) do at least some cursory research on the speakers testifying to get a sense of what their motivation could possibly be for either misleading the public, or, genuinely telling the truth.

Today, I'm chatting with you about the fact that I’ve been processing a ton of new information in my brain these past weeks as a result of really trying to educate myself in detail about the situation in Palestine, and how it relates to my previously held worldview. And, like many people I know, this new information is causing me to examine the world in new and often challenging ways that might bump up against at least some of what I had previously believed to be true. But, in many ways, a lot of questions were answered for me in this revelation, questions that I had never felt empowered to ask...until now.

So, I wanted to use this episode to explore the concept of ontological shock, which is a term used to describe the idea of what a human experiences when they learn something new about the world that completely changes the way they view it moving forward for the rest of their lives. I’ll also discuss critical thinking, and how to deal with a massive paradigm shift in your life.
