From ECF Studios, the creators of The Evident Conspiracy Files, comes a new collection of original tales told from the shadows...

Welcome to Grim Stories.

Created in response to requests from listeners of The Evident Conspiracy Files, this atmospheric fiction podcast brings together our love of mysteries, folklore, history and traditional storytelling — guided by a familiar voice from the ECF universe.

Each episode opens another page of Grim’s ancient book, revealing a self-contained gothic tale of conspiracies, murder, missing people, restless spirits and things that should have remained buried.

All Grim Stories are original ECF Studios productions. Although the characters and events are fictional, many stories are inspired by real places, historical events, local myths and enduring British legends. Forgotten villages, drowned cities, abandoned railways and ancient landscapes become the foundations for something darker — stories in which history and imagination are woven so closely together that it may not always be clear where one ends and the other begins.

Every tale can be enjoyed on its own, but those listening carefully may begin to notice connections between them: recurring symbols, forgotten names, buried bells and clues suggesting that Grim may be telling more than a collection of unrelated stories.

Perhaps the tales are not simply being written.

Perhaps they are being remembered.

With cinematic sound design, immersive narration and an expanding mythology hidden beneath each episode, Grim Stories is best experienced in the dark — and through headphones.

Just be careful not to become tangled in the cord should you fall asleep.

A new original story will emerge from the shadows each week.

  • Episode Five: The Whispering Stones of Avebury
    Sep 26 2026

There are places history remembers almost perfectly.

Avebury is not quite one of them.

The great henge, its stone circles and ancient avenues have been measured, mapped, and argued over for centuries — and no one has ever agreed on exactly how many stones once stood there.

In the summer of 1938, draughtswoman Clara Henshaw uncovers one more stone than the site records admit exists. She sketches it. Measures it. Photographs it. By morning, no one else remembers it was ever found — and by midnight, Clara discovers exactly why.

Some things aren't missing from history because they were lost.

They're missing because someone keeps editing them out.

Inspired by the real stone circles of Avebury and centuries of unresolved archaeological uncertainty about the site, The Whispering Stones is an original tale of memory, erasure, and the terrible cost of being the one who remembers. Like every Grim Stories episode, it stands alone — but those who have followed the book this far will find it harder than ever to tell which parts of this story Grim already knew.

Best experienced in the dark. Preferably with headphones.

    From the shadows...

Some things are forgotten because no one remembers them.

Others are forgotten because someone is working very hard to make sure you don't.

  • Episode Four - The Last Passenger of the London Necropolis Railway
    Aug 13 2026

There was once a railway built for the dead.

Not a metaphor. Not a folk tale. An actual, ticketed, timetabled railway — the London Necropolis Railway — which for decades carried London's coffins and mourners from the capital to Brookwood Cemetery in Surrey.

The real service ended when its London terminus was bombed in the Second World War. It never reopened.Officially.

In November 1954, railway clerk Arthur Mercer finds a first-class single ticket in his coat pocket. His name is handwritten on the front. A departure deadline is stamped on the back. And when Arthur goes looking for the platform this ticket belongs to, he finds it — waiting behind a gate that shouldn't exist, in a station that was declared lost seventy years ago.

Aboard the train: passengers from every decade the railway ever ran. A woman in a green Victorian dress, blood in her hair, telling everyone who'll listen not to board. And, twelve carriages back, a thirteenth carriage that isn't on any plan — carrying a passenger who has been trying to complete one final journey for over fifty years.

Inspired by the real London Necropolis Railway, *The Last Passenger* is an original tale of murder, memory, and the platforms that don't appear on any timetable. Like every Grim Stories episode, it stands alone — but those who've followed the book this far may notice a name turning up in places it really shouldn't.

Best experienced in the dark. Preferably with headphones.

    From the shadows...

Before you sleep tonight, check your pockets.

  • Episode Three: The Ash Tree at Pendle
    Aug 4 2026

In 1612, ten people were executed following the infamous Pendle Witch Trials.

History tells us they were witches. History also tells us they confessed. But history has a habit of favouring certainty over truth.

When a county surveyor is sent to remove a colossal ash tree growing on the site of an abandoned Lancashire farm, he expects nothing more than an awkward engineering problem. Instead, he discovers a tree that no one remembers planting... a tree that has stood for centuries, feeding on every accusation, every confession and every lie ever spoken in the shadow of Pendle Hill.

No one who has struck the trunk with an axe has lived long enough to fell it.

As the roots begin to stir and forgotten names emerge from the bark, Nathaniel Briggs must decide whether some things are buried for a reason—and whether history has been telling the wrong story all along.

Inspired by the real Pendle Witch Trials, **The Ash Tree at Pendle** is an original work of gothic fiction that blends authentic history with dark folklore, mystery and supernatural horror. Like every **Grim Stories** episode, the tale stands alone... but those listening carefully may notice another piece of a far older mystery hidden beneath its roots.

Best experienced in the dark. Preferably with headphones. (Don't get tangled in the cord!)

Just don't believe everything you hear...

(NOTE - From the author... I love that the final line echoes one of the central themes of the episode: **truth, memory and certainty**. It invites curiosity without spoiling the story, and reinforces what makes *Grim Stories* different from many horror podcasts—each episode isn't just trying to frighten the listener, it's quietly asking them to question the stories we inherit.)

    From the shadows...

    Be careful what you say…

And should you see an Ash-tree...

    Leave it be.
