  • How to Live with Yourself - Part 2: On Getting the Most Out of Life
    Nov 1 2026

Many people find it hard to live with themselves because they are haunted by the fear that they are not getting the most out of life, whether they are young or old, married or single, parents or childless, moral or rebellious; each imagines that something essential is slipping past them, leaving their existence thin, frustrated, and unreal. This restless dissatisfaction, however, is not a sign that life has failed us but that God’s law is still at work, exposing the emptiness of life lived for self alone. No one ever truly gets the most out of life by grasping at it, because life was never designed to revolve around our wants and wishes but around God’s purpose. Jesus stated the paradox plainly: whoever tries to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for Christ’s sake will find it. We were created not to extract maximum pleasure from life but to give ourselves in service to God and others; when we misuse life by making ourselves the center, we experience frustration, just as a car fails miserably when used as a house instead of a vehicle. The secret of peace with oneself is therefore not self-fulfillment but self-giving: when we seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, when we give our lives instead of hoarding them, life is restored to its proper function, and joy, peace, and contentment are added as gifts from God rather than prizes seized by effort.

  • How to Live with Yourself - Part 1: Self-Condemnation
    Oct 29 2026

Many people find it harder to live with themselves than with anyone else, because their own hearts constantly rehearse failures, embarrassments, and sins, condemning them more harshly than any external critic ever could; whether over social blunders, unmet expectations, or real moral guilt, men and women torment themselves with self-judgment and remorse. This inward condemnation is universal, even among those who deny God, because no one ever meets even his own lowered standards, and guilt becomes an inescapable companion. Yet Scripture declares the decisive answer: “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus” (Rom. 8:1). Christ, the sinless One, took our condemnation upon Himself, bearing both guilt and judgment, so that those who live in Him are no longer under sentence neither from God nor from their own accusing hearts. Though believers still blunder and sin, their lives are no longer defined by failure but by forgiveness, because Christ now lives in them and cannot be condemned. Freed from self-condemnation, they learn even to forgive themselves, exchanging inner tension and self-hatred for peace, patience, and assurance, resting in the confidence that the Lord sustains them and that, in Christ, they are more than conquerors through Him who loved them.

  • The Road to Peace
    Oct 25 2026

True peace whether of mind, soul, or society is not gained by wishing for it, purchasing it in books, or affirming its value, but only through struggle, discipline, and overcoming; it is a hard-earned paycheck, not a free indulgence. Our age longs deeply for peace because it is restless and inwardly fractured, yet it resents the suggestion that peace requires sacrifice, self-denial, and obedience. Scripture insists on this paradox: peace comes only after battle, never before it. To seek peace without facing the struggle especially the struggle against ourselves is to inherit only frustration. Christ teaches that life, fruitfulness, and peace come only through dying to self, as the grain of wheat must fall into the ground and die. This is not the lifeless peace of a graveyard, but the living peace of Christ ruling the heart, producing love, joy, and faithfulness. Jesus Christ Himself is our peace, and only as He prevails in our lives tearing out the nettles of self-will and self-protection do we experience the peace that passes understanding. Peace, then, is the fruit of surrender, the reward of obedience, and the settled confidence of a life no longer centered on itself but on the Lord of peace Himself.
