A portion of WJMO Radio's Good Morning Cleveland Show from the winter of 1982. It features award-winning broadcaster Tony Harris who went on to work for CNN, HBO, and Al Jazeera, and Ken Robinson who was later inducted into the Cleveland Press Club Hall of Fame, and was given the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society of Professional Journalists.
The show also features Mal Goode who was the first African-American network TV correspondent (ABC News 1962), and the first Black member of the Radio-Television News Directors Association (1971). Also appearing is local legendary sportscaster and educator Cal Martin.
Topics on this show include South African apartheid, the plight of Haitian refugees, Blacks in the Catholic Church, the role of African-Americans in global politics, and the Wayne Williams serial murder case.
The show reveals the vibrancy, inclusiveness, and intelligence of local African-American radio in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, before industry cost-cutting, monopolization, and automation.
