  • Ep 45 : Inside The Secret Marketing of Barbie...
    Sep 22 2023

Barbie may have a PG rating but how does a doll by Mattel challenge the patriarchy in the 'real world'? Kath&Mish get the inside mechanics of how blockbusters are released and the marketing machine that brings them to our screens.
Katie Page is an events manager for Village Entertainment and a woman in film who brings her extensive knowledge to a discussion which extends beyond the celluloid of old.
With the phenomena of the concurrent campaign that mixed the testosterone-dripping Oppenheimer and the feminist-gaze  Barbie, we discover why audiences were bombarded with this new kind of PR 'roll-out'.
Where do women in our film industry sit today post #metoo,  are we breaking the patriarchal ceilings of old and are our film schools generating a new breed of women?
As a board member of WIFT (Women in Film & Television), Katie is unapologetic in her critique of the contemporary film industry and the current dilemmas affecting our future entertainment.

  • Ep 44 : When The Musicians You Grew Up With Start To Depart...
    Aug 25 2023

Kath&Mish have reached a certain age where some of the bands they grew up with now have gaps in their original line up.

For example, the Australian independent scene recently lost two musical heavyweights in the shape of Louis Tillet and Ron S. Peno due to ill health and the rigours of their vocation.

So what's it like to be a rock chick from that scene? Especially when you're in your fifties and still performing and writing, whilst losing people who matter to you deeply?

Kim Walvisch is co-lead singer and pianist with the recently reunited The Double Agents.

You can find their brilliant rock and roll here as well on Spotify.

Together, the gals speak of some of the missing, as well as incredible influences on their musical maturation and we've provided a
Spotify playlist so you can join in...

  • Ep 43 : The Reckoning - assessing the true meaning of friendship Pt 2
    Jun 2 2023

Kath&Mish knew they'd only just got started on the complexity of female friendships in Ep 41, so they gathered their compadre Melissa, and have pushed into it even further.

Asking each other: How far would you go to maintain a long term friendship?

What does the parenting role do to the depth and variety of your female friends?

Do our daughters and our mothers have vastly differing perceptions of grrrl power?

And why do some women reject the bonds of sisterhood in the workplace?

  • Ep 42 : Is Feminism the "F Word" For Younger Women? (Recorded Live At The Sorrento Writer's Festival)
    May 5 2023

Welcome to a landmark episode of From The Hip!

For the first time, Kath&Mish leave the confines of their recording space, and host a live event at the inaugural Sorrento Writers Festival on the Mornington Peninsula in the Australian  state of Victoria.

In front of a sold out audience, our fave podcasters take to the stage for a special one hour conversation to interrogate the  question "Why Do So Many Modern Women Shun the ‘F’ Word?"

Their guest panel of writers, thinkers and influencers are Jane Caro, Charlotte Ree and Kristine Ziwica.

The result is a fierce, funny and unflinchingly frank exchange of views on what's been achieved, the current state of women's' place in policy and politics, the role of men, and the way forward no matter what generation or circumstance Australian women find themselves in.

  • Ep 41 : The Reckoning - assessing the true meaning of friendship Pt 1
    Apr 21 2023

For their guest it's a reckoning, for Mish more a 'sifting'.

It's that moment when you have the confidence to look your often long term friendships straight in the eye, and ask: "Are we still doing right by each other?"

Kath&Mish share some of those uncomfortable but necessary times from their life, and so does their guest Melissa (first name only) who returns armed with data and personal accounts.

Have you done some 'sifting' yourself? Tell us what happened via our Instagram!

  • Ep 40 : We play a game with Esther Perel...right in front of you
    Mar 24 2023

Acclaimed author, podcaster and couples therapist Esther Perel has been visiting Australia.

    However Kath&Mish couldn't get tickets.

So instead, they opened the FTH microphones and played Esther's card game Where Should We Begin -A Game of Stories.

The questions it raised, and the places it led them form the basis of one of the gal's' best episodes one on one.

You too will begin to reflect on your sense of self and the relationships we all hold dear.

  • Ep 39 : In 2023 What's It Like To Date Online As A Woman In Your 50s?
    Feb 24 2023

Kath&Mish return in 2023, and get stuck straight in by asking what is it like to date online when you're a single woman in your fifties?

Mish asks the necessary and impertinent questions as Kath and special guest Leesa give very different perspectives on how they've traversed affairs of the heart in a digital world.

How do you keep yourself safe whilst being open to potential romance?

When should you meet? How do you know it's worthwhile?

Leesa describes the support service she's hoping to offer to new online daters, and Kath recommends a no BS approach to meeting potential new partners.

And for anybody wondering about catfish…
