Seven films. Two Short Kings. Absolutely nobody reading the Latin out loud.

We’re closing out October with forbidden books, mysterious puzzle boxes, dangerous magic, and some very questionable parenting decisions. This month’s Four for Friday takes Jason and Scott into the occult—and Scott is extremely ready for horror month to be over.

From the nightmare of raising Damien to Clive Barker’s twisted imagination, John Carpenter’s creeping dread, and the woods that changed horror forever, we revisit seven films worth turning the lights down for:

• The Omen (1976)
• Lord of Illusions (1995)
• Prince of Darkness (1987)
• The Witch (2015)
• Hellraiser (1987)
• The Pale Blue Eye (2022)
• The Blair Witch Project (1999)

Along the way: unforgettable scores, practical effects, growing up around Salem, stories that still give us the creeps, and the eternal question of whether you should ever open that box.

A quick production note: A recording issue cost us the end of this episode, including our discussion of The Ninth Gate and our full sign-off. You’ll hear us promise eight films, but seven made it into the finished episode. Thanks for bearing with us—and consider this our missing goodbye: thanks for spending another Friday with us. We’ll see you next week.
