Forgiveness does NOT mean you get your seat back at my table.
I can forgive you and still recognize that access to me is no longer healthy.
Forgiveness releases me from carrying the weight of what happened. Reconciliation asks whether trust can actually be rebuilt—and that requires more than an apology. It requires accountability, changed behavior, consistency, and time.
Some people want forgiveness because they miss the access, not because they’ve changed.
Read that again.
I can let go of the anger without reopening the door.
I can wish you well without inviting you back into my life.
And I can forgive you completely while still choosing me.
Forgiveness is freedom.
Reconciliation is a decision.
They are not the same thing.
