  • #166 Navigating Cancer, Hormones & Healing with Diane Blakeley

What happens when a cancer diagnosis turns your entire world upside down? And what do you do when the medical system leaves you with more questions than answers?

In Episode 166 of Everything's Messy Podcast, I'm sitting down with the incredible Diane Blakeley for a raw, honest, and eye-opening conversation about breast cancer, hormones, healing, and the importance of advocating for yourself when it comes to your health.

Diane takes us through her personal journey with ductal carcinoma, from the shock of her diagnosis to the emotional roller coaster of treatment decisions, surgery, and recovery. And trust me, this conversation goes WAY beyond cancer.

We're talking about the things that don't always get discussed in the doctor's office. Hormone therapy, the Onco DX Score, KI-67, chronic inflammation, nutrition, environmental toxins, and why understanding what's happening inside YOUR body matters so much.

And because this is Everything's Messy, we're not skipping the emotional stuff either.

Diane opens up about facing mortality, feeling jealous of people who weren't sick, navigating burnout, and learning that healing isn't just about what happens physically. It's emotional, mental, and sometimes even spiritual.

One of my biggest takeaways from this conversation? You cannot be a passive passenger when it comes to your health.

That doesn't mean you have to figure everything out alone. It means asking questions, finding healthcare professionals who listen, understanding your options, and recognizing that what works for one person might not be right for another.

In This Episode, We're Getting Messy About:

    • Diane's breast cancer diagnosis and how it changed her life.
    • The possible connections between hormones, hormone therapy, and breast cancer.
    • Understanding the Onco DX Score, KI-67, and how testing can help inform treatment conversations.
    • Making difficult decisions about lumpectomy, mastectomy, radiation, and other treatment options.
    • Why having supportive doctors, family, and friends makes such a difference.
    • The emotional side of cancer that people don't always talk about, including fear, jealousy, grief, and burnout.
    • Nutrition, food sourcing, chronic inflammation, and the role lifestyle choices can play in overall wellness.
    • What Diane learned from exploring different approaches to healing.
    • How AI could change the future of cancer detection and medical research.
    • Why self-advocacy and personalized healthcare matter.
    • The connection between mind, body, and emotional well-being.
    • Learning to protect your energy, speak your truth, and prioritize yourself.

A Few Moments That Really Hit Home

    "Healing, recovery is messy."

"Every single human body is different."

"Advocating for yourself is so important."

    "You have to be informed."

And perhaps one of the most vulnerable moments of our conversation:

"I was jealous because they get to live and I'm gonna die."

That's the kind of honesty we need more of. Because being sick isn't just about lab results, medications, and procedures. It's about being human while navigating something incredibly scary.

    Why You Need to Listen

Whether you've personally faced cancer, supported someone through a diagnosis, struggled with hormonal health, or simply felt unheard in the healthcare system, this episode is going to make you think.

Diane's story is a reminder that there is no one-size-fits-all path to healing. We can respect medical science, ask tough

  • #165 Inherited: The Good, the Bad & the Messy
    Oct 7 2026

Family is messy. Genetics are messy. And sometimes the things we inherit have absolutely nothing to do with money. 😂

In this episode of Everything’s Messy Podcast, I’m talking about all the things our families pass down to us — our genes, health habits, traditions, stories, behaviors, personalities, and yes… sometimes a little generational baggage too.

I dive into how our family history can shape who we become, from the role genetics and environment play in our health to the surprising ways birth order may influence our personalities and family dynamics.

But here’s the part I really want to focus on: inheritance doesn’t have to equal destiny.

Just because something “runs in the family” doesn’t mean we have to sit back and accept every habit, pattern, or health trajectory that came before us. We can ask questions. We can learn our family history. We can make different choices. And sometimes, we can be the person who decides a generational cycle ends here.

I also talk about the good stuff we inherit — the traditions, stories, values, recipes, quirks, and connections that make our families ours. Because our legacy isn’t just what we leave behind someday. It’s what we’re modeling and passing along right now.

    We’re talking about:

    • Genetics vs. lifestyle and environment
    • Health habits we inherit without realizing it
    • Breaking unhealthy generational cycles
    • Birth order and personality
    • Family traditions, stories, and identity
    • Modeling a healthy self-image for our kids
    • Becoming proactive about our health
    • The kind of legacy we actually want to leave behind

Because we may not get to choose what we inherited…but we do get a say in what we pass on.

And as always, even in family, health, life and everything in between keep it messy. ❤️

  • #164 Mineral Deficiency Signs And The Messy Connection To Hashimoto's
    Sep 30 2026

You can eat the “right” foods. You can take all the supplements. But what happens when your body isn’t actually absorbing or using what you’re giving it?

In this episode of Everything’s Messy Podcast, I dive into the surprisingly complicated world of mineral deficiencies, absorption, thyroid health, and supplementation.

We’re talking zinc, magnesium, potassium, copper, calcium, iron, iodine, and selenium—and why looking at each mineral in isolation can miss a much bigger picture.

I explore how minerals work together, why more isn’t always better, and why symptoms like fatigue, muscle cramps, hair changes, weakness, or feeling “off” deserve context rather than an automatic trip to the supplement aisle.

And if you’re navigating Hashimoto’s or thyroid issues, there are some especially important conversations around zinc, selenium, iron and iodine—including why iodine deserves extra caution rather than a “more is better” approach.

I also get into the iron conversation beyond simply asking, “Am I anemic?” What does ferritin tell us? What affects iron absorption? And why does getting iron into the body not necessarily mean it’s being utilized the way we expect?

Because wellness is messy—and sometimes the answer isn’t another supplement. Sometimes it’s understanding what your body is actually doing with it.

This episode is for educational purposes and is not intended to diagnose or treat a medical condition. Talk with your healthcare professional before making significant changes to supplements, especially if you have thyroid disease, kidney disease, take prescription medication, or suspect a deficiency.
