    Oct 9 2026

Host Anca Platon Trifan and returning guest David T Stevens share practical strategies to thrive at IMEX America without burnout, emphasizing pre-planning objectives, protecting calendar non-negotiables, accepting you can’t do it all, and managing the show’s physical, cognitive, and social demands. They cover tactics like protecting “sleep inertia,” moving before the day starts, maintaining nutrition structure (including travel snacks and intermittent fasting), prioritizing sleep, scheduling meetings by show-floor sections to preserve attention, investing in social health, and recovering before depletion. They also explain the origins and purpose of the #Fit4events push-up and squat challenge and preview Circadian Cove RX at Mandalay Bay, featuring credentialed practitioners, recovery modalities, and assessments such as brain mapping, VO2 and metabolic testing, body composition, grip strength, and nervous system resets.

  • 229: The Long Game of Leadership: Building Companies That Last ft David Peckinpaugh
    Sep 18 2026

On the Events Demystified Podcast (CEO Edition), host Anca Platon Trifan interviews David Peckinpaugh, President and CEO of Maritz and its first non-family CEO, about leading a 132-year-old, fifth-generation family-owned company with a long-term “stewardship” mindset. Peckinpaugh shares his path from hospitality and a DMO role in San Diego to Maritz, and explains how the Tugboat Institute’s Evergreen “seven Ps” framework (purpose, people, passion, perseverance, performance, principles, profit) shapes decision-making, including viewing profit as fuel to invest in people and innovation. He discusses Maritz’s COVID response, weekly town halls, continued innovation, and preserving leadership, plus an intentional approach to AI aimed at making employees “irreplaceable,” aligned with sustainability goals. The conversation also explores why in-person events remain uniquely human, the difference between personalized and truly personal experiences, and why time is the core currency attendees invest.

  • 228: The rise of the hybrid athlete: ironman lessons & limitations | Anca Platon Trifan
    Sep 4 2026

Anca Platon Trifan recounts her Ironman 70.3 at Lucky Peak a month after finishing, explaining her eight-month experiment of training as a “hybrid athlete” by maintaining bodybuilding-level lifting while building endurance and learning to swim as an adult. On race morning, brutal wind made the water dangerously choppy, and Ironman canceled the age-group swim (pros did a modified swim), a decision she supports for safety though relay swimmers were upset. A forgotten T2 bag was rescued by her husband, but she left behind salt tablets, leading to severe quad cramping around mile 40 of the bike and a grueling half marathon aided by a stranger’s salt tablets and her husband’s support amid extreme heat and poor air quality. She also raced with recent back and knee injuries, had difficult post-race recovery compounded by travel and heat, and shares DEXA results showing only ~2 pounds lean mass loss and reduced visceral fat, reinforcing her philosophy of defining success and training identity on her own terms.
