Judith Scott was a deaf mute artist with Down Syndrome who gathered international fame for her enigmatic coccoon-like fibre sculptures. In part 1 of her story, Shelby and her husband Jason discuss Judith's early childhood before and after becoming a ward of the state. Told from the point of view of Judith's fraternal twin Joyce, we get into the emotional details of their short time together and the destructive aftermath of their forceful separation.
