Dexter Taylor is a 53-year-old software engineer, data scientist, and father from Brooklyn who has become a symbol of the struggle for constitutional rights in modern America.
A self-described "nerd and tinkerer" and a graduate of Stuyvesant High School, Dexter spent his career in the tech industry before his life was upended by New York’s strict firearm regulations.
As a lawful hobbyist, Dexter engaged in home gunsmithing—a practice he, and many legal scholars, argue is protected under the Second Amendment.
Despite having no criminal record and never using his firearms for an unlawful purpose, Dexter was targeted by an investigation into the purchase of legal gun components. Following a trial where the presiding judge reportedly stated that the "Second Amendment does not exist" in her courtroom, Dexter was convicted on multiple weapons charges and sentenced to 10 years in a maximum-security prison.
Dexter now stands as a self-described "political prisoner," fighting his case from behind bars in the hopes of reaching the Supreme Court to set a precedent for all Americans.
His story is a chilling look at what happens when state-level "lawfare" clashes with the fundamental Bill of Rights, and he remains resolute in his mission to see the Second Amendment restored as the "law of the land".
