All of humanity is frozen… except for the people trapped on a train endlessly circling the Earth. Welcome aboard Snowpiercer.

Bong Joon Ho’s Snowpiercer is a bizarre, brutal, and surprisingly thought-provoking sci-fi thriller where the last survivors of humanity live aboard a massive train divided by social class. At the very back of the train, the poorest passengers are crammed together in horrific conditions. At the front? Luxury, privilege, and a completely different world.

In this R Rating movie review, we take a trip through the frozen wasteland and break down Snowpiercer—from Chris Evans’ performance as Curtis to the film’s strange characters, insane action sequences, dark humour, disturbing moments, and absolutely bonkers world-building.

We’ll also dive into the movie’s themes of class division, inequality, power, rebellion, and social control, while looking at how Bong Joon Ho uses every section of the train to tell a different part of the story.

And then there’s that ending…

Is Snowpiercer one of the most creative post-apocalyptic movies of its generation, or does its bizarre storytelling go completely off the rails?
