Peter: The same way we get to know each other on this Earth as friends is similar to the way we get to know the God of the universe – through conversation and time. I have always been drawn to the Gospel stories such as "The Road to Emmaus" and "The Transfiguration" because the apostles accompany Jesus to a destination. For anyone who has been destined for anywhere, you spend a lot of time in conversation with people around you. It's this equation of conversation + time that equals relationship. This podcast is a conversation, not an interview – because real people have conversations, they don’t interview each other. That is the aim of the "Engaged By The Spirit" podcast: to spend time in conversation with each other to share stories, ideas, and glorify God. I never imagined I would live in five different U.S. states, let alone the Vatican City-State, but that is what the Lord had in store for me. As a result, I have met hundreds of incredible and fascinating people. Just when I think my cup of friends is full, it overflows with another community of people. Most recently, joining the Air Force as a chaplain has my cup running over again. This podcast is all about getting to know a huge variety of people, and about how when the Holy Spirit locked onto them, and engaged them in the Divine Life… it changed everything!     On the latest episode of "Engaged By The Spirit," Fr. Peter Julia welcomes his good friend Casey Watkins, a Major in the Air Force!

    Casey shared what drew him to the Catholic faith as a convert, the impact that his wife Mary has had on his life, and his favorite moments of being a parent. Fr. Peter and Casey also discuss serving in the military, summiting Mount Hood together, and why it's important to witness to your faith while living in a place like Portland.

    A note on this episode:

    During this episode, Casey shared the joyful news that he and his wife Mary were expecting a new baby. However, since the filming of this episode, they sadly suffered a miscarriage. Casey and Mary wished for us to keep the mention of the pregnancy as part of this conversation, in remembrance of their son Callum Dominic.

    It's time for a very special episode of "Engaged By The Spirit" as our host Fr. Peter Julia welcomes his cousin, Br. Rufino Joseph, CFR!

    Br. Rufino Joseph is a Franciscan Friar of the Renewal, and – like Fr. Peter – also serves as the Vocation Director. He shared openly about how a surfing accident led to his conversion, what it's like working with people in deep poverty, and how his mindset shifted to see everything in life as a gift from God.

    The cousins also discussed their parallel paths in discovering a religious vocation and how that was closely tied to their family.

    Fr. Peter faces his most difficult dilemma yet: how to choose one of many shared areas of interest to discuss with his guest Emily (Brand) Cheever!

    Emily is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force (she actually outranks Fr. Peter!) and also flies for Alaska Airlines. Together they discuss military life, the struggles and rewards of mountain climbing, close calls while flying, and even a special challenge coin.

    Emily also shares about her passion for OCIA, her graduate studies in theology and forestry, how God was working in her journey to marriage, and how the centrality of the Eucharist became apparent to her while traveling to 70 countries.
