In my reading from the Journal of Discourses read about and discuss how Howard Egan murdered James Monroe for sleeping with his wife and did so with the blessing of the Mormon Church and was acquitted for the crime by the court, not because they thought he did not commit the murder, but because they thought it was a justified homicide.
