We all experience difficult emotions, but why do we sometimes work so hard not to feel them?
In this episode, we explore the many ways we can avoid uncomfortable emotions, often without even realizing we're doing it. Staying busy, distracting ourselves, saying "I'm fine," or immediately trying to fix how we feel can all become ways of creating distance from an experience we'd rather not sit with.
What if avoiding emotions isn't a sign that something is wrong with us? What if it's simply a response we've learned when something feels uncomfortable?
We'll explore the difference between feeling an emotion and being overwhelmed by it and why noticing what we're feeling doesn't mean we have to act on it or immediately make it go away.
I'll also share a simple practice for becoming a little more familiar with what you're feeling without needing to fix, explain, or change it.
This is an invitation to become more curious about your emotional experience, listen to what your body may be communicating, and create a little more space for yourself to feel.
