You survived the difficult season. You kept going. You learned how to push through, hold everything together and do what was necessary to make it to the other side. But surviving something and learning how to truly live afterward are not always the same thing. Sometimes the crisis ends long before your inner world realizes that it’s finally safe to exhale.
This week, we’re exploring what it means to find your joy after spending years in survival mode. We’re talking about that often-overlooked space between surviving and living—the place where peace may feel unfamiliar, rest can feel uncomfortable and joy may require you to intentionally rediscover parts of yourself that were buried beneath responsibility, pain, fear or simply trying to make it through another day.
Survival can shape more than the way you respond to difficult situations. It can influence your relationships, your decisions, your expectations and even the way you see yourself. When you’ve spent so much time being the strong one, the responsible one, the one who figures it out or the one who keeps moving no matter what, you may eventually find yourself asking a completely different question:
Who am I when I’m no longer just trying to survive?
Inside this conversation, we explore:
Why peace can sometimes feel uncomfortable after experiencing chaos
Why joy may need to be intentionally rediscovered in small ways
How survival mode can shape your identity and the way you move through life
Why leaving survival mode can sometimes create an unexpected sense of uncertainty
Why healing doesn’t always mean becoming the person you were before
How to begin discovering who you are in this season of your life
As this month comes to a close, this episode also acknowledges Suicide Prevention Awareness Month and the importance of checking in with the people around us—not only those who visibly appear to be struggling, but also the people who always seem strong, dependable, capable and okay. Sometimes the people carrying the most have become very good at carrying it quietly.
Press play on Episode 157: Finding Your Joy After Survival and let’s talk about what it looks like to move beyond simply surviving and begin making room for living again.
