I used to set myself a lot of New Year’s resolutions, but over the past few years, I’ve given up on them. They create unnecessary pressure, even though I usually achieve most of them. And since I have a baby now, resolutions like going to the gym three times a week or learning a new language feel quite unrealistic.
Instead, I decided to look back on my life and identify the things I don’t like. One of them is my spending habits. This year, I want to be more mindful about them, not because I spend too much, but because I often spend according to marketing traps. Especially on social media: when I see something that’s popular, I suddenly feel the urge to buy it.
This started to bother me a lot. I don’t want to fall into these traps anymore. Beauty products and home and kitchen items are my biggest weak spots. Still, I want to be more intentional. If I really, really like something, or truly need it, then I might buy it.
I’ve already made a few changes. I gave up gel manicures because they take a lot of time, are quite expensive for me, and I can’t keep up with them anyway. I allow myself to buy one book a month, with a maximum of two, no more than that, since it’s not realistic for me to read three books in a month. When it comes to technology, as long as my devices work, I want to keep using them. Eating out and ordering delivery has already decreased, since I spend most of my time in the kitchen now, so we’re doing well there.
And clothes… after giving birth, I developed the habit of wearing only comfortable clothes unless I’m invited somewhere special. My wardrobe is now very minimal, and I want to keep it that way.
