Episode 19 | Your Hangar Home Design Actually Starts Outside

Before you fall in love with a hangar home floorplan, there's something even more important to consider: the land you're building on.

In this episode of The Aeroview Lifestyle, luxury interior designer and Aeroview Design Co. founder Ariel Merk takes you behind the scenes of designing a custom aviation residence in Pecan Plantation, Texas, and explains why thoughtful hangar home design begins long before the first floorplan is drawn.

From mature pecan trees and building setbacks to taxiway access, natural light, outdoor living, and the relationship between the residence and hangar, every property has its own opportunities and limitations.

And sometimes, the land itself reveals a better design than the one you originally imagined.

Inside this episode, you'll discover:

✈️ Why site planning comes before floorplans — How your property's shape, existing trees, setbacks, and airpark requirements influence the entire design.

🏡 The importance of taxiway views — Why the most valuable view on an aviation property isn't always the street-facing one, and how sightlines influence the placement of your home.

🛩️ Designing for two ways of arriving home — How thoughtful planning accommodates everyday routines, airplane access, flight gear, storage, and the transition between your hangar and residence.

☀️ How sun exposure influences your design — Why natural light, shade, climate, and outdoor living should be considered before deciding where rooms and gathering spaces belong.

🌳 Connecting your home, hangar, and outdoor spaces — How detached structures, patios, pools, landscaping, and gathering areas can create one cohesive aviation lifestyle experience.

📐 Why you shouldn't commit to a floorplan too early — How starting with a predetermined layout can limit creativity and prevent you from discovering your property's full potential.

🔮 Planning for your future aviation lifestyle — Why your next airplane, retirement plans, growing family, and long-term goals deserve consideration today.

Whether you've already purchased an airpark lot, are planning a custom hangar home, or are just beginning to explore aviation residential design, this episode will help you understand the decisions that shape a successful project.

Because a truly exceptional aviation residence isn't simply a beautiful house with a hangar attached.

It's a thoughtfully designed property where your airplane, home, surroundings, and lifestyle work together.
