Is being a top-ranked high school basketball player enough to earn a Division I scholarship? Not anymore.

On this episode of Leave Your Legacy, host Kenyon Murray sits down with basketball analyst Derrick Beechum, better known as DB, to discuss the changing landscape of college basketball recruiting, the transfer portal, NIL, and the growing importance of analytics.

From growing up playing basketball in the Quad Cities to managing billions in assets during his banking career, Derrick shares how his background in basketball and data analytics has shaped his approach to evaluating and developing young athletes.

Kenyon and Derrick explore why talented players are being overlooked, how college coaches evaluate prospects, the reality of recruiting rankings, and why finding the right program may be more important than chasing a Division I offer. They also discuss building a winning basketball culture, developing competitive athletes, and what parents and coaches need to understand about today's recruiting process.

Whether you're a player, parent, coach, or basketball fan, this conversation offers valuable insight into what it really takes to succeed at the next level.
