  • 015: Project Co-Mingle, A Tribute to the Builders of a Skyscraper
    Jun 19 2024

Multimedia artist & street photographer, Joyce McAndrews began Project: Co-Mingle in 2015, when she came upon a hand-painted sign in Seattle's South Lake Union neighborhood on a job site that read "Co-Mingle".

She thought the construction team was encouraging the community to get along during the demolition of another city block. Spoiler alert: That was not the case.

To Joyce's surprise, she gained unprecedented access to the construction site and was unconditionally welcomed into the wildly misperceived world of construction. She followed the crew for five years, documenting the rise of the Troy Block in 2018 and the Rainer Square Tower in 2020.

In this episode, Joyce McAndrews shares her story, revealing how her personal journey through trauma, loss, grief, and beauty was explored through the medium of Project: Co-Mingle.

We learn together the lessons that sometimes, we must face our greatest fears in order to create our own sense of Safety.
