Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note.
What does it mean to live positively with HIV in a society where stigma, discrimination, and prejudice can make everyday life a struggle? In this powerful episode of Singa Gwe (“What If It Was You?”), we explore the lived experiences of transgender women living with HIV in Uganda, highlighting the challenges they face and the extraordinary resilience they demonstrate in navigating them.
From stigma and rejection to discrimination in healthcare settings, social exclusion, economic hardships, and the fear of being judged for who they are, transgender women living with HIV often face multiple layers of marginalization. These challenges can affect their mental well-being, relationships, access to essential health services, and ability to live openly and safely.
Yet, beyond these struggles are stories of courage, hope, solidarity, and determination. Through personal experiences and reflections, this episode celebrates the strength of transgender women who continue to prioritize their health, support one another, challenge harmful stereotypes, and advocate for dignity, inclusion, and equal access to healthcare.
Their stories remind us that living positively with HIV is about more than treatment; it is also about acceptance, belonging, emotional well-being, and the freedom to live without fear or discrimination.
Singa Gwe invites you to listen, reflect, and ask yourself: What if it was you? What would it mean to walk in their shoes, understand their experiences, and help build a society where every person can access healthcare with dignity and live a life free from stigma?
Because every story deserves to be heard, every life deserves dignity, and no one should have to fight discrimination simply to be themselves.
