In this Daily Devotion for September 19, 2026, Pastor David Balla walks through Psalm 80:19, the closing refrain that has carried this entire psalm, through shepherd imagery, bread of tears, mockery, and a vine burned to ash. Restore us, O Lord. Let your face shine, that we may be saved. The request never changed because the solution was never going to change either.

This devotion follows that closing plea to its complete answer in Jesus, the true and lasting shining of God's face toward sinners, the one through whom God's favor was finally and fully turned toward His people once and for all. Every earlier request in this psalm finds its yes in Him, not as a temporary reprieve, but as salvation secured permanently through His death and resurrection. There we find true grace, forgiveness, and salvation, given completely and forever. Through His redemption we are welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven, and in the Lord's Supper that shining face is turned toward us again, His true body and blood given for the forgiveness of sins.

Let this refrain become your own prayer today, in whatever ruin you are walking through. His face already shines toward you in Christ.
