  • Episode 49 | When Life Changes Overnight: Faith, Caregiving, and Finding Yourself Again | Linsday Kelly
    Oct 14 2026
In this deeply personal and emotional conversation, Lindsay Kelly shares her experience of navigating life after her husband, Reed, was diagnosed with progressive multiple sclerosis (MS) in 2019. At the time, they had six children under the age of 15. As her husband's condition progressed, Lindsay found herself taking on the roles of full-time caregiver, mother, and primary provider while trying to understand the dramatic changes in his behavior and personality. For years, Lindsay struggled with her husband's unpredictable mood swings, emotional outbursts, and memory loss. She often felt misunderstood by others who couldn't see what was happening behind closed doors. When medical professionals eventually connected his behavioral changes to MS, she experienced both relief at finally being believed and overwhelming grief about what the diagnosis meant for her family's future.Faith, family, and the kindness of others became essential sources of strength. Lindsay describes moments when prayer brought her comfort, neighbors unexpectedly helped with everyday tasks, and family members reminded her that she didn't have to face everything alone. Eventually, her husband moved into assisted living, providing Lindsay and her children with much-needed relief from the demands of daily caregiving. The conversation also explores the difficult process of rediscovering her identity. Lindsay reflects on how marriage, caregiving, and years of emotional strain changed her sense of self. Through therapy, she began to recognize that even when hurtful behavior isn't intentional, its impact can still be real. She learned that acknowledging her own suffering doesn't mean she has stopped loving her husband. One of the episode's most memorable lessons comes from a story about an injured hunting dog. The dog's owner initially became frustrated when it stopped following commands, only to discover that it was bleeding and in pain. Lindsay connects this story to human behavior: sometimes what looks like weakness, anger, or failure is actually a sign of unseen suffering.Ultimately, the episode is about learning to see ourselves and others with greater compassion. Lindsay encourages listeners to look beyond appearances, support caregivers without judgment, maintain their individual identities, and act on the instinct to help. Her story illustrates that faith doesn't eliminate hardship, but small acts of kindness and meaningful relationships can make difficult seasons more bearable.CONNECT WITH LINDSAY KELLYLinked In - https://www.linkedin.com/in/lindsaywkelly/ Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/lewkelly06/TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@lindsaywadmankelly YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/@Lindsaywkelly Website - https://www.lindsaywkelly.com/ LISTEN/WATCH/SUBSCRIBE TO THE “COUNTERFEIT EMOTIONS” PODCAST:*Apple Podcasts - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/counterfeit-emotions-podcast-with-curtis-morley/id1815869994*Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/0aGzO1BVLAXyGKfb4absPn?si=8c746decf9514fe3 *YouTube Podcasts - https://www.youtube.com/@AuthenticCurtis/podcasts *Amazon Music Podcasts - https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/05e74308-205e-4416-bc73-8fecd006f528/counterfeit-emotions-podcast-with-curtis-morley *iHeartRadio Podcasts - https://www.iheart.com/podcast/269-counterfeit-emotions-podca-276824817 CONNECT WITH THE “COUNTERFEIT EMOTIONS” PODCAST*Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/authenticcurtis *LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/curtismorley/ *YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/@AuthenticCurtis *TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@authenticcurtis *Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/AuthenticCurtis *X - https://twitter.com/AuthenticCurtis *Website - https://www.counterfeitemotions.com/ *Email for general messages - info@counterfeitemotions.com *Collab with us - info@counterfeitemotions.com *Book me to speak = speaking@curtismorley.com *Sponsor Us - info@counterfeitemotions.com

  • Episode 48 | You Were Never Meant to Fit In | Ben Kjar
    Oct 1 2026
This episode of the Counterfeit Emotions Podcast features Ben Kjar, whose life story centers on identity, adversity, faith, resilience, and learning to distinguish determination from stubbornness. Curtis Morley frames the conversation around the idea that Kjar’s accomplishments—wrestling success, business, and his film Stand Out—are less important than the person he chose to become through difficult experiencesA major metaphor throughout the conversation is the Pool of Bethesda. Kjar describes how, as someone born with Crouzon Syndrome, he once viewed his condition as a curse and waited for something or someone else to change his circumstances. Eventually, he came to see the condition differently—as something that could become a gift—and realized he needed to stop "sitting by the water" and take responsibility for moving forward himself. The discussion then moves into identity. Kjar explains how easily people can accept identities placed upon them by others. A painful childhood experience in a grocery store caused him to internalize the idea that he didn't belong, until his mother reframed his difference: he wasn't born to fit in; he was born to make a difference and stand out.Another central theme is the relationship between pain and purpose. Kjar suggests that scars and difficult experiences can become something we share with others rather than something we need to hide. Both speakers discuss the idea that faith doesn't necessarily mean being spared from pain; sometimes faith means going through pain while believing that God is present. The conversation also explores vulnerability as strength, rather than weakness. Kjar describes how his earlier, military-influenced view of leadership emphasized toughness and emotional restraint, but he eventually came to see openness and vulnerability as a genuine leadership strength. Later, Kjar connects his wrestling experience to his philosophy of life. He talks about "calling your shot"—declaring who you intend to become before the evidence exists. He recalls writing that he would become a three-time state champion before actually achieving it.The final portion of the episode shifts toward surrender, peace, and listening. Kjar describes realizing that he had become addicted to chaos and achievement because they made him feel productive and valuable. He now sees genuine inner peace as a greater accomplishment than money, possessions, or external success. He also describes learning to let God "drive" rather than constantly trying to take control. Overall, the episode is about moving from victimhood to agency, shame to identity, pain to purpose, control to surrender, and chaos to peace.CONNECT WITH BEN KJARLinked In - https://www.linkedin.com/in/ben-kjar-91909913/ Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/benkjar/ TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@benkjar?_t=8YSMdnA5Dac&_r=1 YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/@benkjar2609 LISTEN/WATCH/SUBSCRIBE TO THE “COUNTERFEIT EMOTIONS” PODCAST:*Apple Podcasts - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/counterfeit-emotions-podcast-with-curtis-morley/id1815869994*Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/0aGzO1BVLAXyGKfb4absPn?si=8c746decf9514fe3 *YouTube Podcasts - https://www.youtube.com/@AuthenticCurtis/podcasts CONNECT WITH THE “COUNTERFEIT EMOTIONS” PODCAST*Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/authenticcurtis *LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/curtismorley/ *YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/@AuthenticCurtis *TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@authenticcurtis *Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/AuthenticCurtis *X - https://twitter.com/AuthenticCurtis *Website - https://www.counterfeitemotions.com/ *Email for general messages - info@counterfeitemotions.com *Collab with us - info@counterfeitemotions.com *Book me to speak = speaking@curtismorley.com *Sponsor Us - info@counterfeitemotions.com

  • Episode 47 | Learn, Earn and Return: Dream Big to Give Big | Clint Pulver
    Sep 14 2026
Curtis Morley sits down with longtime friend and professional speaker Clint Pulver to explore what it means to live with abundance, purpose, gratitude, faith, and ultimately peace.Clint shares the remarkable story of how his dream of becoming a helicopter pilot was seemingly destroyed at age 21 when he was diagnosed with keratoconus and told he would eventually go blind. The experience forced him to abandon his original plan and attend college—something he had never intended to do. At Utah Valley University, he discovered new possibilities and developed the skills and relationships that ultimately helped shape his career as a speaker. Years later, advances in medical treatment and scleral lenses restored his ability to see 20/20, allowing him to fly again. He subsequently began using his passion for aviation to serve others through his Dream Machines foundation, taking children with disabilities and their families flying. That journey becomes the foundation for one of the episode's central ideas: sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fit together. Clint describes the obstacles in his life as roadblocks that forced him to change direction and ultimately trust God's plan rather than his own. His philosophy is to keep moving forward, stay engaged, and allow God to redirect him when necessary. The conversation then turns to the difference between accumulation and abundance. Clint argues that it is perfectly acceptable to dream big, pursue success, enjoy the things that bring you joy, and strive for greatness. The key is understanding why you want those things. His mantra is: "It's not about being the best in the world. It's about being the best for the world." He describes his father's philosophy of "learn, earn, return"—using what you learn and achieve to ultimately give back to others.Clint also discusses the danger of endlessly chasing the next accomplishment. After years of intense work and sacrifice, he reached a point where he could look at what he had accomplished and say, "It is enough." For him, fulfillment comes from balancing three things: passion, purpose, and the ability to provide.Another major theme is the idea that greatness does not have to equal pride. Clint and Curtis discuss how people can mistakenly shrink themselves because they fear appearing boastful. Instead, they suggest allowing greatness to flow through you so it can benefit others. Clint connects this mindset to gratitude, recognizing the people who helped him along his own journey.
