    Episode 64

In this episode of Coaching The Brave, we sit down with Saylene Romero — Army wife, homeschooling mom of two, budget coach, and founder of Simply Say Budgeting. After more than a decade of PCS moves, deployments, and constant transition, Saylene learned how to build financial stability, pay off debt, and create flexible income that supports her family no matter where the Army sends them.

Today, she teaches families how to take control of their money and mentors women who want to build portable, purpose‑driven businesses that fit their lifestyle. Saylene’s story is a powerful reminder that military spouses can dream bigger, earn confidently, and build a life they’re proud of — even in the middle of military chaos.

If you’re ready to feel more empowered with your finances, create flexible income, or finally build the life you’ve been imagining, this episode will give you the clarity and encouragement you’ve been craving.

  • "We're a community - When we shut people out, that only hurts those around us" - Erik Monarca
    Sep 21 2026

Episode 62 I had the honor of interviewing our first Marine Corps Veteran. This episode shares an emotional, deeply human story about service, identity, guilt, and rebuilding life after unimaginable loss. In this episode, he opens up about serving right before 9/11 — carrying the weight of not deploying with his brothers — and the heartbreak of losing his young child while working out of state. His journey through grief, transition, injury, and rediscovering purpose fuels the mission behind the Chat 62 Podcast: A Veteran-focused storytelling platform centered on honest conversations about service, identity, mental health, and life after the uniform. He brings a grounded, relatable approach to interviewing fellow Veterans—creating space for stories that often go untold., mental health conversations, and reminders that none of us walk this road alone.

-Erik’s daughter lived with a courage that didn’t need words. She faced diabetes with a quiet strength, and even in her hardest moments, she brought joy into her family’s world. Her passing left a space that can never be filled, but her love remains, shaping the man Erik is today. This episode stands as a tribute to her life, her bravery, and the bond that continues beyond loss.
