"The Trap" (The Flash Season 1, Episode 20) is the hour the season-long

con finally ends — and the villain wins anyway. I break down the full

episode: the Time Vault discovery (Gideon, the 2024 newspaper, Iris

West-Allen), Cisco's erased-timeline memories and the lucid-dream trap,

the force-field showdown that ends with a shapeshifter instead of Wells,

Eobard Thawne's chilling intercom reveal, and the static-spark moment

Iris finally realizes Barry Allen is The Flash.

Plus: why keeping Eobard's ambiguity makes him a better villain, why

the episode's "masks" theme is doing quiet genius work, and the one

thing about the Iris storyline that hasn't aged well.

In this episode we revisit The Flash Season 1, Episode 19, the hour where the show's silliest villain-of-the-week secretly became its most important. A shapeshifter who steals faces, Eddie framed for murder, Caitlin's loyalty cracking, a road trip to Starling City, and the buried body that turns suspicion into proof. Funny, strange, and quietly devastating — this is the episode where Team Flash stops asking if Wells is lying and starts discovering what he's been hiding.
