This is part of a year-long reading of the Bible chronologically in a harmonized format.
Job 22:1 - 24:25
- Eliphaz accuses Job of great wickedness and urges him to repent and return to God for restoration.
- Job longs to present his case before God, affirms his integrity, and questions why the wicked often prosper without immediate judgment.
Mark 1:9-11
- Jesus comes from Nazareth to be baptized by John in the Jordan River.
- As he emerges from the water, the heavens open, the Spirit descends like a dove, and God's voice declares him as the beloved Son.
Luke 3:21-23
- While Jesus is praying after his baptism among the people, heaven opens and the Holy Spirit descends in bodily form like a dove.
- God's voice affirms Jesus as his beloved Son, with whom he is well pleased; Jesus begins his ministry at about age thirty.
John 1:29-34
- John the Baptist identifies Jesus as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.
- John testifies that he saw the Spirit descend on Jesus like a dove, confirming him as the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit and as God's Chosen One.
Matthew 4:1-11
- Led by the Spirit into the wilderness, Jesus fasts forty days and faces temptation by the devil.
- Jesus resists each temptation by quoting Scripture, and angels minister to him after the devil departs.
