Christians & Birthdays: Whose Example Should We Follow?
The Bible records only two birthday celebrations: Pharaoh's birthday (Genesis 40:20) and Herod's birthday (Matthew 14:6). Yet nowhere do we read that Jesus Christ, His apostles, or the early disciples celebrated birthdays or taught others to do so.
Jesus said, "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me" (Matthew 16:24). As followers of Christ, should we follow His example or the traditions of the world? In the days of Noah, people ignored God's warning and continued with their daily lives until the flood came and swept them away.
Today, many people follow traditions without searching the Scriptures to see whether Christ teaches these practices. This message encourages Christians to examine the Bible carefully and follow the example of Jesus Christ above all else.
