Christianity can feel like a heavy backpack of rules, routines, and “try harder” advice. We wanted to name the thing many believers quietly carry: if following Jesus is mostly duty, it slowly drains joy, peace, and honest desire for God. So we ask the question straight: if Christ were all you had, would He be enough?
We work through Psalm 42 and Psalm 63 to recover a biblical picture of longing for God, not just gratitude for what He gives. Along the way we connect Romans 14:17, Galatians 5, and John 15 to a simple point with huge implications: spiritual fruit grows from abiding in Christ, not from white-knuckle effort. We also get candid about why evangelism so often sounds like compulsion. If we aren’t compelled by Christ, why would anyone else be?
Then we go after the deeper layer: identity. The rich young ruler didn’t just have possessions, he had built a self around them. Colossians 3 and Philippians 3 help us see why “knowing Christ” is not a side benefit of faith, it’s the definition of eternal life and the standard that reframes what gain even means. We close with a practical challenge for church life and preaching: are we coming to be impressed, entertained, or comforted, or are we coming to be fed Christ, the true bread?
