A proposito di questo titolo
BANG! BANG! BANG! The pounding shook the apartment like someone was trying to rip it off its hinges. Gunsmoke drifted faint through the hallway vents, the echo of distant shots still buzzing in the cold Chicago air. “OPEN UP! NOW!” Tia screamed and pressed herself behind Rell.
Buttafly stood frozen, her eyes wide and dark.
MeMe grabbed ChiTown’s arm, her heartbeat loud enough to hear.
Rell had already pulled his gun halfway out, eyes narrowed, breath steady. ChiTown raised a hand.
“Nobody move.” It wasn’t fear in his voice.
It was calculation. The pounding continued.
“OPEN THE DOOR, CHI! MAN, OPEN UP!” It wasn’t police. It wasn’t Mack T’s crew. It was Tone-Bone, the neighborhood runner—young, jittery, always in trouble but loyal. ChiTown flung the door open. Tone-Bone stumbled inside, panicked, sweat steaming off him in the winter air.
“They shot up the block, bro! Over on Lotus! Said it’s Mack T’s boys. They lookin’ for you!” MeMe gasped.
Buttafly cursed under her breath.
Tia clung to Rell, trembling. ChiTown’s jaw locked so tight his cheek twitched. Mack T. The out-of-town dealer with something to prove.
The man who disrespected ChiTown on his own block.
The one who smiled when he said, “Or what?” Now ChiTown had his answer.
