Why do some people pull away when relationships start to feel emotionally close? This chapter explores emotional avoidance, fear of intimacy, vulnerability, attachment patterns, boundaries, self-protection, and the difference between genuine healing and learning how to keep love at a safe distance.
AFJ asks whether independence can become armour, how past hurt can shape trust and communication, and whether some of the behaviours we call “protecting our peace” may sometimes be protecting us from intimacy itself.
Because healing should not only teach us how to avoid being hurt again. At some point, it should also help us become capable of being known, trusting wisely, communicating honestly and allowing healthy love to come close.
If you have ever wondered whether you are genuinely healing or simply becoming harder to reach, welcome to The House.
